I’ve been listening to a lot of Jefferey Lewis lately. One song in particular and it made me think of an idea for a new Spotify playlist. Songs that mention or allude to other songs. I was waiting until I had five but we will just start with these first four. If you know of any others leave them in the commoents.
1. The Chelsea Hotel Oral Sex Song – Jeffrey Lewis
This song alludes to Chelsea Hotel No. 2 by Leonard Cohen. Despite the provocative title by Lewis the song has a nice moral about writing songs about people you barely knew.
2. Let’s Dance to Joy Division – The Wombats
This song mentions Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division. I like to listen to it when I’m having a mixed episode.
3. Hands Open – Snow Patrol
This song mentions by name Chicago by Sufjan Stevens. I haven’t listened to this album in a long time.
4. Liza Forever Minnelli – Mountain Goats
This song mentions Hotel California by The Eagles. This is like in my top ten favorite Mountain Goats songs of all time.
